Project Overview

I designed and built Essentia for a practical need of my own: checking time, fitness information and daily details without a crowded display.

Design problem

The watch faces I had used either left out information I wanted or made it difficult to find. I wanted a clearer hierarchy while allowing people to choose the data relevant to them.

My approach

I reviewed the layouts I had used, sketched alternatives and developed a structure around quick reading and customizable complications.

Establishing the hierarchy

I tested the arrangement of the information, refining where the eye lands first and how the secondary details sit around it.

Making room for choice

Customizable complications let users select information such as fitness statistics, heart rate, date or battery level. The layout had to accommodate those choices within a consistent structure.

Refining through use

I invited testers to review usability and clarity, then adjusted spacing, typography and visual balance in response.

Delivered

The finished watch face combines a clear information hierarchy with customizable complications for different daily needs.

What the project shows

A self-directed product carried through design, implementation and testing, with particular attention to information hierarchy and the details of everyday use.
